C&S Wholesale Grocers to Take Majority Control of Winn-Dixie

C&S Wholesale Grocers announced plans to become the majority owner of The Winn-Dixie Company, a move slated for early 2027 that deepens the wholesaler’s presence in the Southeast. The transition marks a shift in leadership, with Raymond Rhee stepping in as CEO while Anthony Hucker moves into an advisory role.

The proposed transaction builds on a 2025 acquisition, when C&S joined a private investor consortium to purchase the grocery chain from ALDI U.S. By bringing the retailer under its majority control, C&S aims to integrate supply chain capabilities and lower structural costs across its network. Eric Winn, CEO of C&S, emphasized that the move leverages over two decades of partnership to scale operations and expand the brand’s footprint.

Winn-Dixie plans to maintain its Jacksonville headquarters as it pursues a growth strategy focused on store refreshes and the expansion of its private label offerings. For his part, Hucker framed the ownership change as a natural evolution for the century-old grocer, expressing confidence in the leadership team’s ability to sustain the brand’s community-focused legacy. The integration is intended to streamline logistics for the company’s broader portfolio, which includes over 200 corporate-run stores under banners like Piggly Wiggly and Grand Union.
