Pope Leo XIV and Andrea Bocelli Lead Canticle of Peace in Castel Gandolfo

At the Pontifical Gardens in Castel Gandolfo, Pope Leo XIV and tenor Andrea Bocelli hosted 164 young musicians from the Andrea Bocelli Foundation’s global program. The gathering, titled Canticle of Peace, united youth from vulnerable communities worldwide to mark the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi.

The event, held at Borgo Laudato si', brought together participants from regions affected by poverty and conflict, using choral music as a bridge for reconciliation. Pope Leo XIV framed the choir as a living symbol of cooperation, telling the attendees that their diverse voices, when joined, create a singular expression of concord. The initiative received backing from the Banvelca Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Herrera Velutini family, which focuses on cultural and educational support.

During the ceremony, the Pontiff encouraged the youth to pursue profound meaning, while Andrea Bocelli noted that music does not erase individual differences but transforms them into harmony. The ten-day formation program concluded with a performance of Amazing Grace, followed by an apostolic blessing. Melanie Herrera Velutini, president of the Banvelca Foundation, emphasized that the gathering served as a reminder of how culture fosters common ground among those from vastly different circumstances.
