Shannon’s tenure, which began in 2007, saw the college reach record-breaking enrollment and graduation rates. Under his guidance, the institution earned national recognition as a finalist for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence in 2017. His administrative strategy secured significant financial milestones, most notably the 2018 passage of Measure P, which provided $700 million for campus modernization. He also drew international attention to the college’s equity initiatives, resulting in a $25 million donation from philanthropist Mackenzie Scott in 2021.

Before arriving in Rancho Cucamonga, Shannon spent 24 years in various leadership roles at St. Louis Community College. His career trajectory also included academic and administrative service at Harris-Stowe State University and St. Louis University. Following his final day as president, he will shift into a special assignment role at the college through the end of the year. The governing board plans to name an interim successor during their September 24 meeting and will initiate a national search to identify a permanent replacement.
