Since 2020, Crawford has served as NAMI’s associate medical director, focusing on evidence-based guidance and ensuring that patient perspectives remain central to mental health policy. Her new role involves leading nationwide efforts to improve access to care, inform public discourse, and translate complex research into support systems for families. CEO Daniel H. Gillison, Jr. noted that her appointment is a strategic move to combine scientific innovation with the lived experiences of those the organization serves.

Beyond her work at NAMI, Crawford maintains an active academic presence as an assistant professor of psychiatry at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. She is a recognized expert in child and adolescent mental health, having authored a guide for caregivers on navigating pediatric psychiatric care. Alongside her advocacy and policy work, she continues to maintain a private practice in Boston and serves as a frequent media contributor, providing expert commentary on mental health issues for outlets including The New York Times and NPR.
