California American Water Finishes $1 Million Coronado Pipeline Upgrade

Replacing 1,000 feet of aging infrastructure on 3rd Street, California American Water has finalized a $1 million project in its San Diego District. The upgrade replaces outdated materials with modern ductile iron piping and adds critical fire protection hardware to secure the local grid against potential service disruptions.

The project involved installing 8-inch ductile iron pipe, a material chosen to resist corrosion and extend the system's lifespan. Beyond the pipeline replacement, crews integrated two new gate valves and a fire hydrant, designed to bolster fire flow capabilities for the Coronado neighborhood.

Jessica Taylor, Southern California Director of Operations, noted that the work addresses infrastructure that had reached the end of its functional life. By modernizing these assets, the utility aims to reduce the frequency of emergency repairs and ensure consistent water pressure for residents and local businesses. This initiative fits into a broader, ongoing capital program by California American Water to stabilize and modernize its regional delivery network.
