Castrol cooling fluids secure NVIDIA validation for AI data centers

NVIDIA has officially validated Castrol’s ON PG25 and PG25T cooling fluids for use in its AI factory and data center infrastructure. The approval follows a comprehensive technical review of the products’ thermal stability, material compatibility, and the global supply-chain reliability of the bp-owned lubricant brand.

As high-performance computing packs increasing processing power into limited footprints, traditional air cooling struggles to manage the resulting heat. Direct-to-chip technology, which circulates fluid through cold plates attached to CPUs and GPUs, offers a more efficient alternative. The Castrol ON PG25 line operates as a closed-loop system, which prevents atmospheric exposure and minimizes evaporative water loss, thereby improving the water usage effectiveness of large-scale infrastructure.

The validation process scrutinized technical performance metrics, including corrosion resistance and the purity of the propylene glycol base. Beyond the chemistry, NVIDIA assessed the integration of these fluids with wetted components like seals and plastics. Peter Huang, Global President of Thermal Management at Castrol, noted that this milestone provides operators with the reliability needed to deploy liquid cooling at scale. By meeting these rigorous standards, Castrol strengthens its position as the industry shifts toward more intensive, energy-demanding AI hardware deployments.
