Aitech Launches SOSA-Aligned Ethernet Switch for Defense Platforms

Chatsworth-based Aitech has unveiled the U-C6850, a rugged 10/40GbE switch and router designed to serve as the high-speed backbone for military and aerospace systems. By adhering to the Modular Open Systems Approach, the hardware aims to streamline the modernization of legacy platforms through improved interoperability and reduced lifecycle risks.

The U-C6850 provides up to 320 Gbps of total switching capacity, featuring flexible configurations that support either eight 40GbE or 32 10GbE interfaces. This throughput is tailored for data-heavy environments, such as sensor fusion architectures that require low-latency video and data processing. Beyond raw performance, the unit is optimized for Size, Weight, Power and Cost (SWaP-C), allowing system integrators to densify their networking capabilities without a proportional increase in power draw.

Designed as a 3U VPX board, the switch complements Aitech’s existing M622 XMC-based offering, providing engineers with a choice of form factors for specific mission requirements. The device includes integrated security features and supports IEEE 1558v2 Precision Time Protocol for synchronized network operations. According to product manager Alex Trigoub, the hardware is intended to accelerate technology insertion for defense contractors, enabling them to upgrade mission computing capabilities in aircraft, naval vessels, and ground vehicles with minimal redesign effort. The U-C6850 is currently available for mission development.
