Can-Am Unveils Concept SSVs as BRP Commits to Aggressive Release Schedule

Can-Am has pulled the veil off two experimental side-by-side vehicles, the Defender Prerunner and Maverick R XRay, signaling a shift toward rapid-fire product development. The brand, owned by BRP Inc., pledged to deliver major off-road vehicle announcements every six months for the next four years to dominate the global powersports market.

The Defender Prerunner, a 6X6 platform, serves as a high-performance support vehicle designed for the grueling demands of desert racing. It features 35-inch tires and a trophy-truck-inspired bed for field repairs. In contrast, the Maverick R XRay is a dune-focused machine. It replaces traditional bodywork with a translucent, backlit exoskeleton capable of dynamic lighting displays. Both vehicles utilize premium Sparco seating and specialized configurations to showcase the brand's design capabilities.

While these builds remain strictly conceptual, they represent a strategic pivot for BRP. Sandy Scullion, President of Powersports at BRP, stated that the company is aiming to become the top-tier choice for dealers worldwide through consistent, industry-leading innovation. According to Alain Massicotte, SSV Director of Design and Innovation, these projects are intended to push the boundaries of current product architecture and foster deeper engagement with the off-road community. This push comes as the company seeks to leverage its 80-year history to maintain a competitive edge in a shifting global market.
