Covet App Aims to Remove Guesswork from Gift Giving

The ritual of exchanging gifts is often fraught with performative gratitude and awkward guesswork, but a new platform seeks to replace the uncertainty with intent. Founders Sandy Harris, Jennifer Mantz, and Julie Zelnick have launched Covet, an app designed to turn personal wish lists into a transparent, shoppable marketplace.

The platform functions as a dynamic, year-round registry where users aggregate items ranging from fine art and gold jewelry to everyday essentials. By importing links from social feeds or saved photos, individuals build a collection of preferred items that friends and family can access at any time. This approach targets a segment of the global gift retailing market, which was valued at $491.82 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $678.08 billion by 2034.

For the founders, the project is a direct response to the social friction caused by surprise gifting. Jennifer Mantz notes that relying on guesswork often leaves recipients feeling guilty for not liking a gift, effectively removing the joy from the exchange. By allowing users to signal their actual preferences, the developers argue that the act of giving becomes more thoughtful and less stressful. The app is currently available for download on the Apple App Store, offering a digital space for users to curate their tastes and avoid the pitfalls of unwanted holiday or birthday surprises.
