ARCOS Labs Emerges to Shield Human Creativity from AI Infringement

Nelson Chu has launched ARCOS Labs, a technology venture designed to provide infrastructure for creators and studios struggling to police intellectual property in the age of generative AI. The New York-based company aims to secure human likenesses and artistic works against the rapid, often unauthorized, replication by frontier models.

The entertainment industry currently faces a recursive cycle of IP infringement, where new generative models launch with few guardrails, only to walk back capabilities after viral controversies. The company’s founding was catalyzed by a 2025 incident involving unauthorized Studio Ghibli-style imagery, which underscored the lack of consent and enforcement mechanisms available to artists. Chu, who previously scaled the private credit platform Percent, describes the current landscape as a "Napster moment" for creative output.

ARCOS Labs manages two primary products: VN and Lightbar. The flagship platform, VN, utilizes a proprietary fidelity recognition engine to analyze AI-generated content, providing studios and talent agencies with forensic reports that measure how closely output tracks with protected assets. This data allows rights holders to track potential infringements while simultaneously integrating AI into their production pipelines. Lightbar, a community-driven tool, has already surfaced thousands of potential violations, highlighting the sheer scale of unauthorized AI reproduction across major studios. By moving out of stealth, ARCOS intends to establish a standard for creative protection before the regulatory environment for AI solidifies.
