RK Partners Hires Retired LTG John Deedrick to Lead Defense Expansion

After a 35-year military career spanning combat tours in Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan, Lieutenant General (Ret.) John Deedrick is pivoting to the private sector. He joins New York-based consulting firm RK Partners as a strategic adviser, tasked with helping defense contractors capture untapped R&D tax credits.

Defense engineering teams frequently overlook tax incentives because they fail to classify complex technical work as qualifying research. RK Partners aims to close this gap by deploying industry veterans to identify and quantify activities—such as C3I integration or extreme-environment material development—that often go unreported. The firm has already secured significant capital for the sector, including a $685,000 claim for an avionics company specializing in control panel technology.

Partner Zeb Cohen noted that Deedrick’s deep operational background will be essential as the firm scales its defense practice. By integrating subject-matter experts who understand both military constraints and tax law, RK Partners intends to challenge the dominance of Big Four firms in the R&D credit space. To date, the company has secured over $110 million in credits across various industries, positioning its new defense-focused strategy as a core growth pillar.
