Morton Arboretum to Unveil Tree Dimensions Exhibition in 2027

Beginning May 22, 2027, the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, will host Tree Dimensions, an immersive outdoor exhibition featuring five large-scale sculptures. Ranging from 11 to 20 feet in height, these interactive installations invite visitors to climb, walk through, and physically engage with the complex biological structures that sustain forest life.

Designed by Berlin-based Chilean artist Rommy González in collaboration with architect José Francisco Calbacho, the works interpret distinct tree components—flowers, fruit, leaves, branches, trunks, and roots—through vibrant, architectural forms. The project aims to make the invisible processes of tree biology tangible, encouraging a deeper understanding of how these organisms support healthy ecosystems and biodiversity.

Four of the sculptures will be located along the Arboretum’s ADA-accessible Conifer Walk, while a fifth will be positioned on a hill visible from Interstate 88. The exhibition, produced by the agency Millecent, is scheduled for installation in the spring of 2027. Access to the sculptures is included with general admission, and the collection will remain on display through March 2029.
