Akiram Therapeutics Secures Lutetium-177 Supply from ITM for AKIR001

Securing a steady supply of medical-grade isotopes is the latest milestone for Swedish biotech firm Akiram Therapeutics as it pushes its lead radiopharmaceutical candidate, AKIR001, through clinical trials. The company has finalized a supply agreement with ITM Isotope Technologies Munich for non-carrier-added Lutetium-177.

The partnership provides Akiram with the high-quality radioisotope necessary to power AKIR001, an antibody-radionuclide conjugate currently in Phase I testing at Karolinska University Hospital. This candidate targets CD44v6, a marker frequently found in aggressive tumors, including those of the lung, thyroid, and head and neck. By combining the therapeutic isotope with a proprietary antibody, the treatment aims to deliver radiation directly to malignant cells while sparing surrounding healthy tissue.

For ITM, the deal reinforces its role as a primary global supplier of Lutetium-177, a critical component in modern targeted radionuclide therapy. While the companies have kept the financial terms of the arrangement private, the collaboration ensures the clinical program maintains a consistent supply chain as it evaluates the drug's safety and efficacy in patients with metastatic or irresectable solid tumors.
