West Virginia American Water Begins Ohio Street Alley Utility Upgrades

West Virginia American Water has launched a $140,000 infrastructure project in South Charleston, targeting the replacement of aging pipes along Ohio Street Alley. The utility company aims to bolster local service reliability as part of a broader $129 million state-wide investment strategy scheduled for completion throughout 2026.

Crews are currently tasked with installing 600 feet of new 2-inch PVC main, stretching from West Avenue to Rock Lake Drive. Work is slated for completion by late October, with final street restoration expected to follow later in the fall. Residents should anticipate traffic restrictions throughout the construction period, which runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Scott Wyman, president of the utility, noted that the project is essential for maintaining consistent water service for the South Charleston community. During the construction phase, customers may encounter temporary service interruptions, discolored water, or fluctuations in pressure. The company encourages residents to monitor their interactive upgrade map or submit service requests via their website for any emergency issues like main breaks or leaks. This local effort contributes to a long-term initiative that has seen over $805 million invested in Mountain State infrastructure over the past decade.
