Encore Boston Harbor Workers Authorize Strike

With a 97 percent vote, 1,300 employees at the Everett casino have cleared the path for a potential work stoppage. Represented by Teamsters Local 25 and UNITE HERE Local 26, the staff is demanding a new contract that addresses wage stagnation before the current agreement expires on August 31.

The authorization covers a diverse group of employees, including warehouse personnel, floral staff, cage cashiers, limo drivers, and valet attendants. Union leadership argues that management has stalled negotiations despite the casino reporting $847 million in revenue last year, according to Wynn Resorts' SEC filings. Tommy Blitsch, director of the Teamsters Casino Division, stated that management's refusal to bargain has left the workforce with no alternative but to prepare for the picket line.

Warehouse worker Sem Avdic emphasized that staff are seeking a contract that reflects their contribution to the company’s financial success. Local 25 President Thomas G. Mari issued a stark warning to the company, calling on the public to honor potential picket lines if the two parties fail to reach an agreement by the end of the month. The union has made it clear that while they prefer a deal, members are fully prepared to halt operations to secure better pay.
