The certification, awarded under DNV-ST-0358 following sea acceptance trials, marks a shift for operators of floating wind arrays, rigs, and FPSOs. By replacing the conventional docking head with a purpose-designed tip flap, the system maintains a stable connection despite the relative motion of two ships. Real-time LiDAR tracking provides the necessary data for the gangway’s compensation system to bridge the gap between vessels.
Prateek Sadhana, Product Owner for Walk-to-Work Gangways, noted that the capability effectively untethers service logistics from fixed infrastructure. Beyond the technical shift, the certification provides an independently verified framework for insurers and charterers to authorize offshore transfers. Current owners of Horizon units can retroactively upgrade existing systems without undergoing separate qualification processes, as the F2F function is integrated into the existing control architecture.
