By integrating the clinical resources of the Davis Islands medical center and USF Health, the hospital aims to provide specialized cardiovascular care that previously required travel to larger urban centers. The inaugural procedure was spearheaded by Dr. Charan Mungara, alongside leadership from Dr. Benjamin Mackie and Dr. Lucian Lozonschi.

This development follows a series of cardiovascular service expansions at the Brooksville facility, including the opening of a cardiac rehabilitation unit in 2025 and an advanced heart failure clinic. According to hospital leadership, the initiative is designed to offer a multidisciplinary approach to complex heart and lung conditions, ensuring residents receive evidence-based care within their own community. The program intends to leverage university-based research and advanced surgical techniques to support long-term patient outcomes in the region.
