Bank of Montreal has announced plans to repurchase up to 25 million of its common shares, a move aimed at enhancing capital management flexibility. The bank intends to file a formal notice of intention with the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) to initiate the buyback, provided it secures the necessary clearances from the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada. If approved, the program is scheduled to run from September 8, 2026, through September 7, 2027.

Management will oversee the timing and volume of the acquisitions, adjusting for prevailing market conditions and regulatory constraints. While most shares will be purchased at market price, any acquisitions conducted under specific exemption orders are expected to occur at a discount. As of July 31, 2026, the bank reported 697,146,398 issued and outstanding common shares, with a public float of 696,863,163 shares.
