Mars and AMERICAN HERITAGE Chocolate have opened submissions for two major initiatives aimed at preserving American history: the Forrest E. The Forrest E. Mars, Jr. Chocolate History Grant, established in 2013, provides funding to museums, historic sites, and educational organizations that explore the role of cocoa in science and culture. Since its inception, the program has distributed nearly $700,000 to 69 projects across North America. The selection panel prioritizes initiatives with broad audience reach and encourages K-12 teachers to apply for classroom-specific resources.

Running alongside the grant is the History Tellers Award, a newer program launched in 2025 to coincide with the United States' 250th anniversary. This initiative offers a $15,000 prize to professionals—including interpreters, docents, and storytellers—who maintain the accessibility of national history. Winners for both programs will be revealed in February 2027 at the annual Heritage Chocolate Society meeting in Washington, D.C.
