Florida Poly President doubles scholarship gift to honor late wife

Florida Polytechnic University President Devin Stephenson has donated an additional $25,000 to the university foundation, bringing the total endowment for his family’s scholarship to $50,000. The fund, now renamed the Judy Dodd Stephenson Legacy Scholarship, serves as a permanent tribute to his late wife and her commitment to student advancement.

The contribution marks a significant expansion of the scholarship’s reach. While the award was previously limited to members of the university’s Presidential Ambassadors program, the new criteria allow it to support a broader range of students who face financial barriers while maintaining strong academic progress. For the Stephenson family, the endowment reflects a shared belief in education as a primary tool for social mobility and personal growth.

Dr. Stephenson, who has spent decades in higher education leadership, views the gift as an extension of his wife’s values. As the university’s first lady, Judy Stephenson was noted for her focus on compassion and integrity. By formalizing this endowment, the family ensures that these principles remain integrated into the campus culture. According to Stephen Weingart, CEO of the Florida Poly Foundation, the gift provides a tangible path for students struggling with tuition costs to complete their degrees and launch their careers.
