The new regulatory clearance allows for the assessment of HER2 status in gastric, gastroesophageal junction, and esophageal cancers, creating a pathway for patients to access HER2-targeted treatments that were previously unavailable for certain esophageal cases.

Laura Apitz, Head of Pathology Lab at Roche Diagnostics, noted that the inclusion of GEA in the approved indications for the company’s HER2 assay broadens the population eligible for precision therapy. The tests are designed for use on the automated VENTANA BenchMark platform, which helps minimize manual variability and ensures consistency in diagnostic results. By integrating these tools into clinical workflows, pathologists can provide the actionable data necessary for personalized treatment decisions in oncology.
