Niutech Secures Major Refinery Contract to Advance Plastic-to-SAF Production

A global energy major has contracted Niutech Technology Group to supply an industrial-scale pyrolysis line, marking the Chinese firm’s entry into a critical supply chain. The project will integrate waste plastic processing directly into refinery operations to produce hydrotreated Sustainable Aviation Fuel, bypassing traditional feedstock constraints like used cooking oil.

The new production line, capable of processing up to 50,000 tons of waste plastic annually, utilizes Niutech’s proprietary continuous pyrolysis technology. By converting polymers including polypropylene, polyethylene, and polystyrene directly into pyrolysis oil without intensive pre-sorting or washing, the system provides a scalable alternative to the limited supply of biofuel feedstocks currently available to the aviation sector.

This deployment arrives as European regulations tighten, with the ReFuelEU Aviation mandate requiring a 2% SAF blend by 2025, climbing to 70% by 2050. Niutech, which has spent nearly four decades refining its pyrolysis equipment, has already established a presence in international markets ranging from the UK and Denmark to South Korea and Thailand. By embedding this technology into a large-scale refinery, the partnership aims to prove the long-term reliability of continuous waste-to-fuel conversion at an industrial scale.
