GOFO Automates Rome Hub to Boost Southern Italy Logistics Capacity

A new automated narrow-belt sorting system at the GOFO hub in Rome has reached full operational status, driving a 40% increase in processing capacity for southern Italy. The facility, which serves as a primary gateway for the region, successfully concluded a three-month trial period before entering full production.

The system features integrated singulation technology designed to mechanically separate overlapping parcels before they enter the sort loop. By prioritizing mechanical separation over AI-based vision, the company aims to maintain consistent throughput as it enters the autumn peak season. The hub now handles 6,500 parcels per hour across 120 sorting chutes, covering key delivery routes in Naples, Bari, and Catanzaro.

Operational precision has been sharpened through integrated dimensioning and weighing, which achieves volume accuracy of ±10 mm and weighing accuracy of ±20 g in a single pass. Automation now accounts for 80% of the sorting workflow, confining manual labor to initial loading and specific exception handling. Jacqueline Chan, General Manager of GOFO Italy, noted that the upgrade allows the firm to scale alongside e-commerce demand without sacrificing speed. The company, founded in 2023, continues to expand its logistics network across Europe and North America by focusing on automated sorting and intelligent routing.
