Amygdala Brings Neuromarketing Tactics to Political Campaigns

Moving beyond traditional digital personas, Berkeley-based Amygdala Corp. is deploying an algorithmic neuroscience platform designed to map the non-conscious drivers of voter behavior. The startup, which recently influenced primary outcomes in Wisconsin, aims to replace standard polling with neurographic profiles to guide messaging, fundraising, and voter persuasion efforts.

The platform centers on the application of neuroscience to political strategy, a field the company calls NeuroPolitics. By focusing on the brain’s limbic mechanisms—specifically those governing threat, emotional response, and desire—the company builds Dynamic Digital Twins to simulate how voters react before they even articulate an opinion. This approach relies on neural-state modeling, a methodology recently detailed in the journal Frontiers of Computational Neuroscience by chairman and co-founder Dr. A.K. Pradeep.

Pradeep, who previously founded the neuromarketing firm NeuroFocus before its acquisition by Nielsen, is now applying those commercial techniques to congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative races across the Midwest. According to VP of Product Devin Pracar, the goal is to bypass the limitations of self-reported data to capture what voters experience beneath their conscious awareness.

To scale this influence, the company has bolstered its advisory board with figures including U.C. Berkeley SkyDeck executive director Caroline Winnett, veteran Democratic strategist Joe Trippi, and political strategist Alex Shashlo. CEO Dr. Robert Tatterson maintains that the integration of such diverse expertise in neuroscience and political operations will fundamentally shift how campaigns measure electoral advantage.
