This initiative centers on the introduction of "xStocks," tokens backed one-to-one by listed equities. By moving beyond traditional brokerage routes, the exchange seeks to provide near-instant settlement and continuous market access. The move arrives as the LSE confronts a period of declining public listings and a structural shift toward digital, round-the-clock financial services.
Testing for the underlying LSE 24 platform is slated for late 2026, with full operations envisioned shortly thereafter. LSE Chief Executive Julia Hoggett emphasized that while tokenization offers a path to modernize capital access and eliminate isolated liquidity pools, the transition must maintain the integrity and regulatory standards expected of a major financial venue.
