Morton Arboretum hosts month-long celebration of Hispanic heritage

From September 15 to October 15, the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, will host a series of cultural events and educational programs honoring Hispanic heritage, featuring a two-day festival that bridges Latin American traditions with the institution’s ongoing international research in tree conservation.

The month’s centerpiece, the Celebración de los Árboles, takes place September 26 and 27 in partnership with the DuPage Hispanic Alliance. The festival grounds will host music, dance performances, and artisan vendors alongside Lucha Libre matches. Beyond the spectacle, the Arboretum is emphasizing its scientific footprint, offering behind-the-scenes Herbarium tours that detail research into Mexican oak species and conservation efforts across Central America.

Programming throughout the month includes bilingual tram tours, forest therapy walks, and the installation of a papel picado display by Chicago artist Jason Guzman, titled Cultivando Comunidad. The series concludes October 11 with Lotería Nights, featuring custom, Arboretum-themed game cards. These events serve to highlight the institution's commitment to community engagement and environmental stewardship, providing Spanish-language resources that remain available to visitors year-round.
