S&P Global Finalizes Sale of Upstream Software Unit to SLB

S&P Global has finalized the divestiture of its geoscience and petroleum engineering software portfolio to SLB, cementing a strategic alliance between the two firms. The move allows S&P Global to maintain the distribution of its proprietary energy data through the software tools now owned and operated by the global technology company.

The transaction, which was first disclosed in April 2026, marks a shift in focus for S&P Global Energy. While the company is offloading its technical software assets, it intends to leverage the partnership to ensure its market data remains integrated into the daily workflows of energy professionals. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, and the company stated the divestment is not expected to materially alter its financial results.

Dave Ernsberger, President of S&P Global Energy, noted that the company is pivoting toward its new AI-powered upstream data platform, Titan. By offloading the software portfolio, the firm aims to sharpen its focus on providing data and research while relying on its alliance with SLB to maintain a presence within the industry's existing technical software ecosystem.
