LADWP Offloads Massive Fleet of Heavy Equipment at Fontana Auction

Dozens of municipal workhorses, ranging from Caterpillar backhoes to specialized bucket trucks, are headed to the auction block this Friday in Fontana. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is liquidating a significant portion of its utility fleet, opening bidding to private contractors and the general public alike.

The sale, hosted by Bar None Auction on September 4, 2026, features a diverse inventory of assets retired from city operations. Beyond the LADWP contingent, the auction catalog includes surplus vehicles and heavy machinery from entities such as the California Department of Transportation, San Diego Gas & Electric, and various municipal departments from cities including Long Beach, Bakersfield, and Torrance.

Prospective buyers can inspect the equipment in person on September 2 and September 3 at the Bar None facility in Fontana. Participation is not restricted to licensed dealers, allowing individual operators and local firms to bid on the assets through the company’s online platform. This event marks a rare opportunity to acquire professional-grade utility vehicles directly from government and institutional inventories.
