Kareem's Lebanese Kitchen Brings Tradition to Rio Lakefront

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at Rio Lakefront on September 1 marked the arrival of Kareem's Lebanese Kitchen in Gaithersburg. The restaurant, led by third-generation chef Rachid Eido, blends ancestral family recipes with regional Maryland ingredients, including a signature hummus featuring local crab.

The kitchen serves as a culinary bridge between Mediterranean heritage and the Chesapeake region. Chef Eido, whose professional background includes a tenure at Washington’s Four Seasons and the 2018 launch of the original Kareem’s in Naples, Florida, emphasizes the Arabic meaning of the restaurant’s name: generous. This philosophy dictates the preparation of staples like their signature hummus, which undergoes a three-day traditional process before reaching the table.

Beyond standard mezze and fresh-baked breads, the menu features classic preparations such as Lamb Mouzat and Farrouj. The new 212 Boardwalk Place location joins a competitive Montgomery County dining landscape, positioning itself as a destination for authentic, family-rooted hospitality. By integrating local Maryland crab into traditional Lebanese preparations, the restaurant aims to establish a distinct identity within the diverse culinary scene of the DMV area.
