Sacramento to Host 34th Annual Recovery Happens at State Capitol

Hundreds of individuals, families, and health professionals will gather at the California State Capitol Park on September 2 for the 34th annual Recovery Happens event. Serving as the official kickoff for National Recovery Month, the day aims to promote treatment access while celebrating the resilience of those in recovery.

The event, hosted by the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals, transforms Area 33 of the Capitol grounds into a hub for advocacy and community support. Festivities begin at 8:00 AM with a complimentary pancake breakfast, followed by a schedule of live performances, including a set by the band COLOSO. Throughout the day, which runs until 3:00 PM, attendees can engage with various resource tables staffed by treatment providers and peer support specialists.

CCAPP CEO Pete Nielsen described the gathering as a testament to community strength, noting that the visible presence of those in recovery remains the most effective tool for dismantling social stigma. By convening on the steps of the State Capitol, organizers intend to bridge the gap between clinical services and public policy, reinforcing the message that recovery is an essential component of healthy communities.
