La Caisse buys 24% stake in India’s Altius telecom tower network

La Caisse has finalized a deal to acquire a 24% interest in Altius Telecom Infrastructure Trust, India’s largest independent tower platform, for INR 121 billion. The investment strengthens the Montréal-based fund’s presence in the world’s second-largest telecommunications market, where demand for 5G-ready infrastructure is accelerating rapidly.

The transaction positions La Caisse alongside Brookfield, which remains the platform's majority investor, and existing partners including GIC and the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation. Altius currently manages a vast footprint of over 258,000 tower sites across India, forming the backbone for mobile operators rolling out 4G and 5G services to a growing digital economy.

Emmanuel Jaclot, Head of Infrastructure at La Caisse, noted that the move targets a sector the firm understands through its global portfolio of digital assets. Brookfield CEO Sam Pollock described the entry of a new long-term institutional partner as a validation of the platform's scale and its capacity to meet the country's rising mobile data requirements. Both firms intend to leverage their collective operational experience to support the next phase of the trust's development.
