La Caisse Secures 24% Stake in India’s Altius Telecom Infrastructure

Canada’s Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec has committed US$1.27 billion to acquire a 24% stake in Altius Telecom Infrastructure Trust. This move positions the pension giant as a major stakeholder in India’s largest independent tower platform, capitalizing on the rapid expansion of 5G networks across the country.

La Caisse Secures 24% Stake in India’s Altius Telecom Infrastructure

The investment underscores a strategic bet on India, currently the world’s second-largest telecommunications market. Altius serves as a critical backbone for the region, managing a portfolio of over 258,000 telecom towers and sites that facilitate both 4G and 5G mobile services. Brookfield retains its status as the platform’s primary investor, joined by La Caisse and existing partners including Singapore’s GIC and the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation.

This capital injection follows a period of aggressive expansion for the Quebec-based investor. In August, La Caisse finalized a C$3.8 billion deal to increase its stake in renewable energy firm Boralex to 30% alongside Brookfield. Simultaneously, the pension fund partnered with Blackstone to inject C$2.5 billion into Air Canada’s Aeroplan loyalty program, signaling a broader diversification strategy across infrastructure and consumer-facing assets.
