Dr. Abdul Bari Khan Honored with 2026 Hovey Impact Award

A single 150-bed hospital in Karachi has evolved into a nationwide lifeline for Pakistan’s most vulnerable. For this achievement, Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, founder of the Indus Hospital & Health Network, has been named the 2026 recipient of the James and Carol Hovey Eisenhower Fellowships Impact Award.

Selected from over 45 competitive project submissions, Khan is being recognized for his role in scaling a vision that now serves more than six million patients annually. The Indus network currently encompasses 12 multidisciplinary hospitals, four regional blood centers, and over 100 primary care sites. Last year alone, the system managed over 214,000 hospital admissions and performed more than 67,000 surgeries, while also conducting malaria screenings for 6.3 million people.

Eisenhower Fellowships President George de Lama praised the physician for providing excellent care with dignity to underserved communities. Khan, who participated in the fellowship program in 2004, will receive a $10,000 grant to further the network’s operations. The award will be formally presented by Jim Hovey on November 11 at the Liberty View in Philadelphia.
