Ibbotson enters the role with a resume defined by high-scale retail transformation. During his tenure at Walmart U.S., which began in 2015, he oversaw the architecture of the company’s grocery eCommerce business and the expansion of pickup and delivery services. His background also includes significant leadership roles at Asda, where he served as Chief Operating Officer, and a four-year stint as a Senior Advisor at McKinsey & Company. Kroger CEO Greg Foran cited Ibbotson’s ability to simplify complex systems and improve frontline productivity as a primary driver for the hire. As the company seeks to cement its position as a dominant national grocer, Ibbotson will take responsibility for aligning the firm’s physical store performance with its evolving digital capabilities.
