Microsoft Unmasks Azure Revenue in Pivot to Cloud Transparency

For the first time, Microsoft has disclosed concrete quarterly sales for its Azure cloud unit, revealing $29.4 billion in recent revenue. This strategic shift places the company’s performance in direct alignment with rivals Amazon and Google, offering investors a clearer window into the intense competition defining the current AI-driven data center boom.

The newly released figures for the fiscal year ending June 30 show Azure generated $101.9 billion, trailing Amazon’s $42.2 billion quarterly cloud haul but outpacing Google’s $24.8 billion. While Microsoft previously focused on growth percentages, the company is now restructuring its financial reporting into two primary segments: "Agents and Infra," covering cloud services and AI software, and "Devices and Consumer," which encompasses Windows, Xbox, and advertising.

CEO Satya Nadella framed the transition as a necessary adaptation to the blurring boundaries between product lines in the age of artificial intelligence. Alongside this disclosure, Microsoft slightly adjusted its Azure revenue forecast for the coming quarter, a move attributed to shifting GitHub sales into the M365 Cloud category rather than a decline in demand. Investors responded positively to the transparency, with company shares climbing 1.4% in after-hours trading.
