easyJet and Ithaca Energy to Join FTSE 100

Budget carrier easyJet is returning to the London Stock Exchange’s premier index alongside newcomer Ithaca Energy, as FTSE Russell shakes up its top-flight roster. The reorganization displaces gambling group Entain and housebuilder Persimmon, reflecting recent market performance shifts that take effect at the start of business on September 21.

easyJet and Ithaca Energy to Join FTSE 100

easyJet makes its comeback following a brief departure on March 23. The airline’s market value currently stands at 5.11 billion pounds, buoyed by a 47% share price surge over the last three months and a pending acquisition by Apollo Global Management. Joining them is the Aberdeen-based North Sea operator Ithaca Energy, which secures its first-ever spot in the index following a 21% gain in share price over the same period, bringing its market capitalization to 4.74 billion pounds.

The exits of Entain and Persimmon underscore a difficult year for both firms. Entain, owner of Ladbrokes and Coral, has seen its shares drop 6.5% during the last quarter, while Persimmon has struggled with a 16% decline year-to-date. Under the rules maintained by the London Stock Exchange Group’s subsidiary FTSE Russell, companies are automatically ejected if they fall to 111th place or lower, while promotion is triggered by rising to 90th or above.
