Tilly’s Stock Surges as Retailer Targets First Profitable Year Since 2022

A 30% jump in premarket trading on Thursday pushed Tilly’s shares to $4.94, capping a year-to-date rally of nearly 90%. The retailer’s latest quarterly report signals a return to profitability, fueled by a 12% rise in comparable net sales and sustained demand throughout the back-to-school season.

Net income for the 13-week period ending August 1 reached $8.4 million, a significant climb from the $3.2 million reported during the same window last year. Earnings per share hit 27 cents, more than doubling the 10 cents recorded in the previous period. Total net sales grew to $163.5 million, with physical storefronts continuing to drive the business by accounting for over 75% of total revenue.

Chief Executive Nate Smith credited the company’s recent momentum for the optimistic outlook, noting that this marks the fourth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Looking ahead to the quarter ending October 31, the company projects earnings between 7 and 12 cents per share, a sharp reversal from the 5-cent loss per share reported in the same quarter last year. Sales are expected to climb between 10% and 14%, reaching a projected range of $150 million to $155 million.
