Designed in collaboration with UK-based Chartwell Marine, the vessel features a 19-foot beam and twin MAN diesel engines, targeting a cruising speed of 20 knots. To ensure precise data collection, the craft includes a dynamic station-keeping system, allowing the crew to maintain position against strong tides and currents. The aft deck is equipped with an integrated A-frame for the deployment and retrieval of specialized sampling gear and buoys.
Construction will take place at the company's 15,000-square-foot metal fabrication facility in Rockland, Maine, with final systems integration occurring at their Thomaston waterfront site. The build must meet strict U.S. Coast Guard Subchapter T, ABYC, and UNOLS standards, requiring independent verification of all structural and safety systems. According to Division Manager Jonathan Egan, the vessel is engineered to function as a high-performance research platform while adhering to rigorous government mandates for reliability and safety.
