The new demonstrator utilizes Microchip’s VS7000 ASA-ML chipset to transmit video and graphics, while Marelli manages the display-side integration. This setup allows for the decoding of standardized video streams—including infotainment, navigation, and camera feeds—directly at the display unit. By moving away from closed, proprietary transmission technologies, manufacturers can simplify display-side electronics, reduce system costs, and gain flexibility in sourcing components from various technology providers.
This architecture supports data rates of up to 16 Gbps with integrated link-layer encryption and authentication, ensuring both security and performance for high-resolution cockpit interfaces. Kelei Shen, President of Marelli’s Electronics business, noted that the collaboration underscores the industry's shift toward flexible, Ethernet-centric electronics. For manufacturers, the transition to open standards like ASA-ML provides a pathway to modernize vehicle architectures while maintaining compatibility across a diverse automotive ecosystem.
