Owensboro Man Wins $1 Million Settlement After 2016 Motorcycle Collision

A decade-long legal battle for an Owensboro man left with permanent brain damage following a 2016 motorcycle crash has concluded with a $1 million settlement. The award follows a complex investigation into a collision involving a semi-truck that crossed into the path of the victim on Kentucky Highway 54.

The incident occurred when a tractor-trailer attempted a right-hand turn, encroaching into the eastbound lane and colliding with the victim. While the trucking company initially shifted blame to the motorcyclist, citing obstructed visibility, attorney Chris Rhoads utilized accident reconstructionists and trucking experts to prove the driver’s negligence. The impact left the victim unconscious, requiring an emergency airlift to the Deaconess Health System Hospital in Evansville.

The medical aftermath involved a cascade of life-altering injuries, including spinal fractures, acute respiratory failure, and traumatic brain injury. Once an active youth sports official and independent worker, the victim now lives with severe cognitive impairment and relies on his daughter for daily care. The settlement provides essential financial resources for the long-term support and medical management required by his permanent disabilities.
