Alibaba Faces Securities Class Action Lawsuit Following Share Price Drops

A federal class action lawsuit has been initiated against Alibaba Group Holding Limited, targeting the company and its executives over alleged securities fraud. The litigation follows a volatile period for shareholders, triggered by the company's inclusion on a U.S. military blacklist and subsequent allegations of illicit AI technology access.

The legal action, led by Pomerantz LLP, centers on events that caused significant declines in Alibaba's American Depositary Receipt (ADR) value. On June 8, 2026, the U.S. Department of Defense designated Alibaba as a Chinese military company, citing its ties to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This disclosure led to a 39% drop in share price over two trading days, closing at $115.38. Further pressure followed on June 24, when reports emerged that Anthropic accused Alibaba of utilizing fraudulent accounts to bypass restrictions on the Claude AI model. The stock subsequently fell another 7.34%, settling at $95.07 per share by June 25, 2026.

Investors who acquired Alibaba securities during the specified class period have until October 5, 2026, to move the court for appointment as lead plaintiff. Those interested in participating in the action or seeking additional information are directed to contact Danielle Peyton at Pomerantz LLP. The firm, which maintains offices globally, is currently managing the filing to address claims of corporate misconduct and potential breaches of fiduciary duty.
