Lexar Debuts World’s Thinnest Portable SSD at IFA 2026

Marking three decades in the memory industry, Lexar unveiled the Muse Ultra-Slim Portable SSD in Berlin this week. The drive, which measures just 3.8 mm at its thickest point, represents a shift toward minimalist, magnetic-based storage designed specifically to streamline mobile workflows for content creators and filmmakers.

The Muse SSD features a precision-machined unibody metal enclosure that tapers to a 1 mm edge. To eliminate cable clutter, the device utilizes a proprietary PogoPin magnetic interface and a SnapLink cable, allowing it to attach directly to MagSafe-compatible iPhone models. Despite its diminutive profile, the drive achieves read speeds of 1,050 MB/s and write speeds of 1,000 MB/s, supporting direct ProRes 4K video recording at 120 fps. Available in 512GB and 1TB capacities, the Muse is expected to hit the market in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Beyond consumer hardware, Lexar used the IFA stage to introduce its AI Storage Core, a suite of technologies aimed at high-performance computing. By utilizing a 5 nm Storage Processing Unit and Luma Bridge architecture, the company claims it can reduce DRAM capacity requirements by approximately 40% while handling complex AI models. The company is also pivoting toward specialized industrial sectors, including high-endurance storage solutions for electric vehicle dashcams and commercial PC deployments, signaling a broader strategy to integrate its memory expertise into both automotive and enterprise hardware ecosystems.
