Quanex Building Products Shares Surge on Profit Turnaround

Shares of Houston-based Quanex Building Products climbed 18% to $22.14 on Friday morning, extending the company’s year-to-date gains to 44%. The rally follows a fiscal third-quarter report that revealed a return to profitability and a stabilization of margins following a challenging previous period.

Quanex Building Products Shares Surge on Profit Turnaround

The company posted $501.8 million in revenue, a 1.3% increase driven by favorable pricing within its extruded-solutions segment and higher volume in custom solutions. This performance marks a significant shift from the year-ago quarter, when Quanex reported a loss of $276 million. The company is now showing a profit of $26.5 million, or 58 cents a share.

Chief Executive George Wilson attributed the financial improvement to progress in balancing price and cost structures, which had previously pressured margins. Wilson noted that macroeconomic headwinds, including inflationary pressures linked to conflict in the Middle East, have begun to subside. Beyond operational gains, the firm reduced its debt load by $42.25 million and executed a share buyback program. Management intends to maintain this focus on debt reduction and capital returns in the coming quarters.
