The Food and Drug Administration has granted accelerated approval to AstraZeneca’s Etcamah, a new treatment targeting advanced breast cancer. FDA Grants Accelerated Approval for AstraZeneca Breast Cancer Therapy

This regulatory clearance specifically targets adult patients who have developed an estrogen receptor-1 mutation while undergoing aromatase inhibitor and CDK4/6 inhibitor therapy. To facilitate precise treatment, the agency also authorized a companion diagnostic test capable of detecting emerging ESR1 resistance mutations.

AstraZeneca executive vice president Dave Fredrickson described the drug as a milestone in oncology, noting it is the first medicine of its kind authorized for use in the first-line setting. The company aims to redefine care standards by utilizing circulating tumor DNA to monitor patient responses to this targeted approach.
