This regulatory clearance specifically targets adult patients who have developed an estrogen receptor-1 mutation while undergoing aromatase inhibitor and CDK4/6 inhibitor therapy. To facilitate precise treatment, the agency also authorized a companion diagnostic test capable of detecting emerging ESR1 resistance mutations.
AstraZeneca executive vice president Dave Fredrickson described the drug as a milestone in oncology, noting it is the first medicine of its kind authorized for use in the first-line setting.
