The trials evaluated two protein-based candidates, SCB-1022 and SCB-1033, which utilize the company's proprietary Trimer-Tag technology. Data indicated significant neutralizing antibody increases across all targeted viruses, with RSV levels rising 6-9 fold and hMPV levels 6-8 fold. Notably, researchers observed no decline in immune response among the oldest participants, aged 75 and above, and found no evidence of immune interference when combining the antigens.
During the study period, which coincided with an active respiratory virus outbreak in Australia, participants receiving the vaccines showed a 62% lower rate of reported respiratory tract infections compared to those in the placebo group. The vaccines were well-tolerated, with participants reporting only mild, transient side effects such as fatigue and injection site pain. Alongside the clinical findings, the company successfully completed a 2,000L commercial-scale production run of the vaccine components, a milestone that executives state significantly de-risks the path toward late-stage development and future market entry.
