First Citizens Bank has finalized the conversion of 138 branches acquired from BMO Bank N.A., a move that adds roughly $5 billion in deposits and $650 million in loans to its balance sheet. The transition expands the Raleigh-based institution's footprint across the Midwest, Great Plains, and Western United States.

Following the September 4, 2026, acquisition, First Citizens now operates more than 600 locations nationwide. With total assets exceeding $225 billion, the firm enters new territories including North Dakota, Wyoming, and Nebraska, while bolstering existing operations in states like Missouri and Kansas. Frank B. Holding, Jr., Chairman and CEO, described the expansion as a disciplined effort to scale the bank's relationship-focused culture into new markets.

To support this growth, the bank appointed several regional leaders, including Nate Downie as Regional Executive Vice President for the Heartland and Stacie Bales Barton for the West. These appointments aim to marry local market knowledge with the resources of a national institution. Beyond personnel changes, the bank has pledged $1 million in charitable investments through 2027, targeting local nonprofits and civic initiatives across the newly acquired regions to cement their presence in these communities.
