Stryker Shares Slide as Supply Chain Bottlenecks Persist

Stryker shares tumbled 8.1% to $278.71 on Tuesday after the medical technology firm admitted that persistent manufacturing hurdles are stifling its peripheral vascular business. The drop marks a significant downturn for the company, which has now seen its market valuation decline by 21% since the start of the year.

Stryker Shares Slide as Supply Chain Bottlenecks Persist

Chief Financial Officer Preston Wells revealed during a Wells Fargo conference that the company failed to meet internal recovery targets. While leadership previously anticipated that supply chain snarls would dissipate by the third quarter, those issues are now expected to drag into the final months of the year. Wells conceded that the current inventory shortage prevents the firm from fulfilling orders for existing clients and capturing new market opportunities.

Beyond peripheral vascular struggles, the company is facing headwinds in its joint replacement division. Despite projections for a summer rebound, the business has reverted to standard seasonal patterns, yielding weaker-than-expected results in the second quarter. Although management remains hopeful for a stronger performance in September, the ongoing production instability continues to cast a shadow over Stryker’s growth trajectory for the remainder of the year.
