Paramount Skydance Demands Bond in Antitrust Merger Fight

Paramount Skydance has formally requested that plaintiffs in two ongoing antitrust lawsuits post a financial bond to cover potential legal costs should the company prevail in court. The demand targets a coalition of state attorneys general and the Writers Guild of America, who are currently blocking the Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition.

Paramount Skydance Demands Bond in Antitrust Merger Fight

The studio confirmed on Tuesday that it has cleared all necessary regulatory hurdles and satisfied closing conditions for the merger. With the deal stalled by a no-close order, Paramount argues that the plaintiffs should bear the financial risk of the delay. A company spokesperson stated that if the transaction remains frozen during litigation, the challengers must accept the economic consequences if their attempt to block the deal proves unsuccessful.

Paramount maintains that it has already agreed to expedite trial proceedings to minimize uncertainty. However, the company asserts that the ongoing delay imposes substantial and quantifiable costs, necessitating a bond to protect its interests. The studio emphasized that federal antitrust laws allow for such measures to shield parties from losses incurred by unwarranted injunctions.
