A $20 million milestone payment from Takeda Pharmaceuticals has triggered a strategic shift at Keros Therapeutics, as the clinical-stage biotech firm authorized a $5 million share repurchase program. The windfall follows the successful dosing of the first patient in the ELRiSE MDS clinical trial, which targets anemia treatments.

The capital injection stems from the elritercept license agreement, a development Keros had signaled to investors back in July. Having secured the funds, the company’s board greenlit the buyback, granting management the flexibility to repurchase outstanding shares through open market transactions or other legal channels. This move marks a pivot toward returning value to shareholders while the firm continues its progress through the clinical-stage pipeline.
