Maesa Launches Anecdotes by Artists, a Perfumer-Led Fragrance Line

Giving perfumers total creative autonomy, Maesa has debuted Anecdotes by Artists, a prestige fragrance brand launching exclusively at Sephora. The concept strips away traditional industry briefs, allowing creators to translate personal memories and raw emotions into scents that prioritize artistic expression over commercial formulas.

Dana Steinfeld, the brand’s founder and Maesa’s Chief Blue Sky & Innovation Officer, developed the line to bridge the gap between the invisible labor of perfumery and the consumer experience. By documenting the creative process—from lab trials to perfumer journals—the brand aims to shift the focus from the product to the artist. The debut collection features the work of Patricia Choux, a veteran perfumer known for her tenure at MANE. Choux’s inaugural trio of scents—Wild Cousin, The Villainelle, and Painted Petals—draws on specific autobiographical anecdotes, ranging from childhood culinary frustrations to the catharsis of painting. Sephora’s involvement signals a strategic push to diversify the prestige fragrance category by highlighting the narrative potential of scent. The collection, which retails for $140 for a full-size bottle, will be supported by a group of fragrance influencers and cross-disciplinary artists tasked with chronicling the brand’s unconventional development path.
